Charleston’s French Quarter is full of beautiful homes, but this one stood out to me for its uniquely stuccoed facade. Unlike the flat, uniform-colored walls of neighboring houses, its textured surface made for a more interesting subject to paint. I also like that the more muted colors of the walls allow the red door and shutters to pop.
This one was enjoyable to paint—the simple shapes allowed me to focus on the stuccoed texture, which I recreated by experimenting with a palette knife. This work is perfect for anyone looking for a small-to-medium painting of a beautiful, historic home with some unique character.
