Collecting Calm (12" x 12" x 0.75")
Acrylic on Canvas, 2025
This piece reimagines a day spent picking lavender in Virginia, baking in the hot summer sun. I used thick globs of blue and red paint to make the lavender pop, experimenting with depth and texture to give the piece more dimension. I like that the added depth creates new surfaces I can play with, making the painting reveal something different from every angle. Unfortunately, this visual effect doesn't translate well in a photograph.
I'm honored this painting was awarded a cash prize in Teravarna's international online 10th Flower Art Contest.
