Kiyomizu-dera Pagoda (24" x 12" x 1.5")

Acrylic on Canvas, 2025

I took a lot of photos on my trip to Japan and Korea last summer. Among them, one of my favorites was of Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto.

In painting this, I nearly reshaped my memory of the site, holding onto its stunning beauty while forgetting the crazy crowds. That's one of the great things about art. It can distill an experience into the memories you want and leave out all the rest.
