Boston Public Garden (12" x 12" x 1.5")

Acrylic on Canvas, 2025

Established in 1837 and developed about 25 years later, the Boston Public Garden is the oldest botanical garden in the United States and a beloved part of the city.

The combination of the boat, people, and geese elevate this from a cool landscape and skyline to a vibrant and quintessential Boston scene.

A few fun facts about the garden I learned:

1) The same family has operated the swan boats since 1877.

2) Before becoming a garden, there was a proposal to turn the site into a cemetery, but it was voted down.

3) The garden’s design was chosen through a competition, and the winner received just $100—about $4,000 in today’s dollars.
